ch 18 pt 10 anatomy Flashcards
What is coagulation?
Network of fibrin - blood clotting
What is intrinsic pathway?
Initiated by platelets upon damage to inside of vessel wall
What is extrinsic pathway?
Initiated by damage outside of vessel
When does clot stop in common pathway?
Fibrin fills mesh and extra is destroyed
The sympathetic response to blood loss is?
Maintaining blood pressure
Blood is redistributed to where during blood loss?
Heart and brain
What is clot retraction?
Squeezes serum out of developing clot
What is fibrinolysis?
Breakdown of fibrin strands by plasmin
What is hemophilia?
Bleeding disorder, issues clotting
Who exhibits hemophilia?
Male exhibit full-blown disease and females are carriers
What is thrombocytopenia?
Platelet deficiency
What causes thrombocytopenia?
Increased breakdown or decreased production
What is hypercoagulation?
Increased tendency to clot blood
What is thrombus?
Blood vessel clot
What is embolus?
Dislodged within blood
What is pulmonary embolism?
Lodges in lungs
