ch 19 pt 7 Flashcards
What is chronotropic agents?
Change heart rate and involves ANS
What is positive chronotropic agents?
Increase heart rate, sympathetic nerve stimulation, release NE and EPI
What is negative chronotropic agents?
Decrease heart rate, parasympathetic activity, release ACh
What is autonomic reflex?
Baroreceptors and chemoreceptors send signals to cardiac center
What is atrial reflex?
Protects heart from overfilling; baroreceptors
What is venous return?
Volume of blood returned to the heart
Volume determines preload which is?
Pressure stretching heart wall before shortening
What are the types of stroke volumes?
Venous return, inotropic agents, afterload
What is stroke volume?
Blood pumped per bear
What is contractility?
Force of contraction
What is inotropic agents?
Change stroke volume and alter Ca2+ levels in sarcoplasm
What is afterload?
Increased resistance in arteries
What is myocardial infraction?
Heart attack
What causes myocardial infarction?
Myocardium deprived of oxygen and sudden/complete occlusion of coronary artery.
Why is atrial repolarization not shown on an EKG?
Occurs at the same time as the ventricular depolarization
