ch 9 part 3 anatomy motions Flashcards
What are the 3 motions?
Gliding, angular, rotation
What is gliding motion?
Two opposing surfaces sliding back and forth or side to side
What is angular motion?
Increases or decreases angle between two bones
What is rotational motion?
What is flexion?
Decrease the angle; bending finger
What is extension?
Increases the angle; straightening finger
What is hyperextension?
Joint extends more than 180 degrees; head looking up
What is lateral flexion?
Moving side to side
What is abduction?
Arm or thigh moved laterally from midline
What is adduction?
Arm or thigh brought back toward midline
What is circumduction?
Circular movement
What is lateral rotation?
Turns anterior surface of bone laterally
What is medial rotation?
Turns anterior surface of medially (midline)
What is pronation?
Medial rotation of forearm so palm of hand posterior
What is supination?
Lateral rotation of forearm so palm of hand anterior (holding soup)
What is depression?
Inferior movement of a body part
What is elevation?
Superior movement of a body part
What’s the position a person should be in?
Anatomic
What is dorsiflexion?
Ankle moves up
What is plantar flexion?
Ankle points down
What is eversion?
Sole turns laterally
What is inversion?
Sole turns medially
What is protraction?
Anterior movement; sticking out jaw
What is retraction?
Posterior movement; jaw back in
What is opposition?
Movement of thumb toward tip of finger
What is reposition?
Fingers back to normal
