ch 9 part 2 anatomy Flashcards
What helps produce synovial fluid?
Inner synovial membrane
Functions of articular cartilage
Reduces friction, resist compression, and avascular
What is joint cavity?
Space between joint bones lined by synovial membrane secreting synovial fluid
Ligament’s purpose
1 stabilizer of joints, dense regular CT, stabilize and strength
What are extrinsic ligaments?
Separate from joint capsule
What are intrinsic ligaments?
Include ligaments outside and within the joint capsule
Tendon’s purpose
2 stabilizer, dense regular CT
Proprioceptors purpose
Knowing where your body is in time
What are bursae?
Fibrous, lined internally by synovial membrane and found where joints rub together to help reduce friction
What are tendon sheaths?
Elongated bursae, wraps around tendons where there’s friction
What are fat pads?
Adipose for protecting packing material in joint
Classes by shape of joint surfaces
Plane, hinge, pivot, condylar, saddle, ball-and-socket joints
What are the 6 general features of a synovial joint
Articular, joint capsule, synovial membrane, synovial fluid, ligaments, articular cartilage (menisci)
What is plane joint?
Uniaxial, Flat, least mobile, gliding movements
What is hinge joint?
Uniaxial, moving elbow like door
