ch 19 pt 6 Flashcards
What is heart blocks?
Impaired conduction
What is cardiac cycle?
All events in heart from the start of one heartbeat to start of the next
What is systole?
Contraction - Increases pressure
What is diastole?
Relaxation - Decreases pressure
What is end-diastolic volume (EDV)?
The amount of blood that is in the ventricles before the heart contracts.
What is stroke volume (SV)?
Is amount of blood ejected by ventricle
What is end systolic volume (ESV)?
Is amount of blood remaining in ventricle after contraction finishes
How do you find ESV?
ESV = EDV - SV mL
What are the phases of the cardiac cycle?
Atrial contraction and ventricular filling -> Isovolumetric contraction -> Ventricular ejection -> Isovolumetric relaxation -> Atrial relaxation and ventricular filling
What is ventricular balance?
Equal amounts of blood are pumped by left and right sides of the heart
What is edema?
Swelling
What is cardiac output (CO)?
Amount of blood pumped by a single ventricle in one minute
How do you find the cardiac output?
HR x SV = CO L/min
What is cardiac reserve?
Capacity to increase cardiac output above rest level
