spinal cord pt 2 Flashcards
What are dermatomes?
Use specific parts of skin to know damage of nerve
What is nerve plexus?
Network of interweaving anterior rami of spinal nerve
What does individual rami branch?
If one goes bad the others can help
What is intercostal nerves?
Between ribs and anterior rami T1-T12
What is cervical plexus?
Anterior rami of C1-C4 and branches innervate.
What is brachial plexus?
Anterior rami C5-T1 and network of fibers
What is the brachial plexus composed of?
Anterior rami, trunks, division, cords
What are the 5 major terminal branches?
Axillary nerve, median nerve, musculocutaneous nerve, radial nerve, ulnar nerve
What is axillary nerve?
To deltoid; sensory input from armpit
What is median nerve?
Most anterior forearm muscles; sensory input from palmar side and dorsal tips of most fingers
What is musculocutaneous nerve?
To anterior arm muscles; sensory input from lateral forearm
What is radial nerve?
Sensory input to posterior arm muscles and posterior forearm muscles
What is ulnar nerve?
To anterior forearm muscles, hand muscles; sensory input from palmar and dorsal aspect of two medial fingers
What is lumbar plexus?
From anterior rami of L1-L4
Femoral nerve
Sensation; sensory input anterior and medial thigh
What sacral plexus?
Anterior rami of L4-S4
What is sciatic nerve?
Largest and longest nerve in body
What is tibial nerve?
Receives sensory signals from skin on sole of foot
What is common fibular nerve?
Splits into deep fibular nerve and superficial fibular nerve
