What is biliverdin?
Converted within macrophages into green pigment
What is bilirubin?
Converted into yellowish pigment
What is stercobilin?
Brown pigment in feces
What is urobilin?
Yellow pigment of urine

Erythrocytes is lower than normal or the oxygen-carrying capacity is reduced
What is sickle-cell anemia?
RBC becomes crescent shaped when O2 levels are low
What is thalassemia?
One globin chain is absent resulting in RBCs that are thin, delicate and deficient in hemoglobin
What is aplastic anemia?
Destruction or inhibition of red bone marrow
What is renal anemia?
Lack of EPO
What is hemorrhagic anemia?
Rapid blood loss
What is chronic hemorrhagic anemia?
Slight but persistent blood loss
What is Iron-deficiency anemia?
Caused by hemorrhagic anemia, but also by low iron intake or impaired absorption; microcytes
What is pernicious anemia?
Autoimmune disease that destroys stomach mucosa that produces intrinsic factor; macrocytes
