LYSISTRATA (speaking from the wall)
ΛΥΣΙΣΤΡΑΤΗ (ἀπὸ τοῦ τείχους λέγουσα)
“Who is this man who has forced his way through the guards without our noticing?”
τίς οὗτος ὃς διὰ τῶν φυλάκων λαθὼν ἐβιάσατο;
KIN. “It’s me.”
ΚΙΝ. ἐγώ.
LYS. “Are you a man?”
ΛΥ. ἀνὴρ εἶ;
KIN. “A man, to be sure.”
ΚΙΝ. ἀνὴρ δῆτα.
LYS. “Won’t you get the hell out of here then?”
ΛΥ. οὐκ ἄπει δῆτ’ ἐκποδών;
KIN. “Who are you, who are throwing me out?”
ΚΙΝ. σὺ δ’ εἶ τίς, ἣ ἐκβάλλεις με;
LYS. “A guard.”
ΛΥ. φύλαξ.
KIN. “Woe is me.”
ΚΙΝ. οἴμοι.
(Speaking to himself)
(πρὸς ἑαυτὸν λέγων)
“It’s clear that I must, unlucky as I am, pray to all the gods.”
δῆλον ὅτι δεῖ με—δυστυχῆ ὄντα—εὔξασθαι τοῖς θεοῖς ἄπασιν.
“Perhaps the gods, to whom I am praying, will grant that I can see my wife.”
ἴσως δὲ οἱ θεοί, οἷς εὔχομαι, δώσουσί μοι τὴν γυναῖκα ἰδεῖν.
(The man prays.)
(εὔχεται ὁ ἀνήρ)
“(But) all you gods, grant that I may see my wife.”
ἀλλ’ ὦ πάντες θεοί, δότε μοι τὴν γυναῖκα ἰδεῖν.
(Again he addresses Lysistrata.)
(αὖθις τὴν Λυσιστράτην προσαγορεύει)
“By the gods, call Myrrhine out here (to me) now.”
πρὸς τῶν θεῶν νῦν ἐκκάλεσόν μοι Μυρρίνην.
LYS. “Who are you?”
ΛΥ. (appearing to soften) σὺ δὲ τίς εἶ;
KIN. “Her husband, Kinesias of the deme Paionis, with whom she lives.”
ΚΙΝ. ἀνὴρ ἐκείνης, Κινησίας Παιονίδης, ᾧ συνοικεῖ.
