At what level do each of the main branches come off the abdominal aorta?
Celiac - T12/L1
SMA - L1
IMA - L3
Branches of Celiac Trunk
L gastric –> L gastric and esophageal branches
Splenic –> splenic artery, short gastric branches go up while L gastroepiploic goes down
Common Hepatic - R gastric, Gastroduodenal and Proper Hepatic
Branches of Proper Hepatic Artery
R hepatic, L hepatic and cystic arteries
Branches of gastroduodenal Artery
R gastroepiploic
Anterior and Posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal
General Supply by Celiac, SMA and IMA
Celiac - pharynx, lower esophagus to proximal duodenum + liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen
SMA - Distal duodenum to proximal 2/3 transverse colon
IMA - distal 1/3 transverse colon to upper rectum (above pectinate line)
What vessel would a posterior duodenal ulcer affect?
Gastroduodenal
3 Major Porto-Systemic Anastomoses
1- L gastric to azygous (esophageal varices)
2- Paraumbilical to small epigastric veins of anterior abdominal wall (caput medusa)
3- Superior rectal to middle and inferior rectal (anorectal varices)
