Brain Lesions Flashcards
Frontal Lobe Lesion
- Disinhibition, dec concentration, dec judgement, dec orientation
- May have re-emergence of primitive reflexes
Frontal Eye Field Lesion
Eyes look toward lesion
Paramedian Pontine Reticular Formation Lesion
Eyes look away from lesion
MLF Lesion
- Seen in MS
- Internuclear opthalmalagia
- Impaired adduction of ipsilateral eye & nystagmus of contralateral eye when try to abduct it
Dominant Parietal Lesion
Agraphia, acalculia, finger agnosia, L-R disorientation
Gerstmann Syndrome
Non-dominant Parietal Lesion
Hemispatial Neglect (of contralateral side)
Bilateral Hippocampus Lesion
Anterograde amnesia (no new memories)
BG Lesion
Resting tremor, chorea, athetosis
Subthalamic Nucleus Lesion
Contralateral hemi-ballismus
Bilateral Mammilary Body Lesion
Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome
-CAN’O beer
C - confusion
A - ataxia
N - nystagmus
O - opthalmoplegia
+ confabulation, personality changes, amnesia
Bilateral Amygdala Lesion
Kluver-Bucy Syndrome
- HSV-1 encephalitis
- disinhibition (inc talking, inc sexuality)
Superior Colliculus Lesion
Parinaud Syndrome
-paralysis of conjugate vertical gaze
Midbrain Lesion
-If reticular activating system then reduced arousal and wakefullness (coma)
Cerebellar Hemisphere Lesion
Intention tremor, limb ataxia, loss of balance
Fall toward side of lesion
IPSILATERAL
Cerebellar Vermis Lesion
Vermis is central - affects central body (truncal ataxia and dysarthria)
-Seen in chronic alcohol use
