Sden. I do not hear [it], friends.
Don’t worry!
But come over here and look … over here!
For I see the markets and the merchant ships.
ἆρα ὁρᾶτε τὰ ἐμπόρια καὶ ὑμεῖς;
Do you also see the markets?
ΚΥΒ. καὶ ΔΙΚ. ὁρῶμεν καὶ ἡμεῖς. τί μήν;
CAPTAIN and DIK. We ourselves also see (them). So what?
ΖΗΝ.
SDEN. O Poseidon, how beautiful are the merchant ships, how beautiful are the markets!
But look over here, friends.
ΚΥΒ.
CAPTAIN Listen, Sdenothemis, and don’t say “How beautiful are the markets.”
For we hear the noise clearly.
ΔΙΚ. ἀλλὰ πόθεν ὁ ψόφος;
DIK. But where is the noise [coming] from?
ΚΥΒ. (pointing down below) κάτωθεν, ὦ Δικαιόπολι.
CAPTAIN. From below, Dikaiopolis.
διὰ τί οὐ καταβαίνομεν ὑμεῖς;
Why don’t we go down ourselves?
Come on, Dikaiopolis —
ΖΗΝ. (by now quite desperate) ποῖ βαίνετε ὑμεῖς; ποῖ βαίνετε;
SDEN. Where are you going? Where are you going?
διὰ δί οὐ μένετε, ὦ φίλοι;
Why don’t you stay, friends?
ὁρῶ γὰρ ἐγώ —
Don’t worry. For I see —
