What is the MOI?
A
- Due to high energy trauma (MVA, fall from height)
*be concerned off injury to ribs, spine, lungs

What are the symptoms?
A
- Pain and soreness (posteriorly)
- Arm at side

What will be shown during the physical exam?
A
- Trauma to skin
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Tenderness
- Decreased motion and muscle strength with shoulder testing secondary to pain

What are some diagnostic tests to due?
A
- Radiographs
*transcapular view - CT if fracture is not clear or if glenoid is involved

Q
What is the treatment?
A
- Non surgical in almost al cases
- Sling
- No heavy lifting
- Gentle ROM within one week
**may need admission if the scapular body fracture causes a pulmonary contusion

Q
When should a scapula fracture be referred to ortho?
A
- If there is a displaced fracture
- Fracture involving glenoid
- Angular deformity
