What is the patient population?
A
most common in patients over 50 years old

What are some of the symptoms of glenohumeral arthritis
A
- Pain worse posteriorly with movement
- Decreased ROM and ability to perform ADLs
- Decreased muscle strength

What will you find during the physical exam
A
- Atrophy
- Tenderness
- Crepitus
- Decreased ROM
- Decreased muscle strength

What are some of the diagnostic tests to run
A
- Radiographs
- MRI

What will radiographs shows?
A
- Decreased joint space
- Osteophytes
- Flattening of humeral head
- Erosions
- Osteopenia (RA)
- Superior migration of humeral head

What will the MRI show?
A
- Will show a potential RCT
*treating the tear can make the pain better

What are some of the adverse outcomes of glenohumeral arthritis?
A
- Chronic shoulder pain
- Loss of motion
- Loss of strength

What is the treatment?
A
- Conservative first
*NSAIDs
*Ice/heat
*therapy
*lifestyle modifications - Surgical
*total shoulder replacement or hemiarthroplasty if no strenuous activity
