A
- 5-7cm proximal to insertion

What are the symptoms?
A
- Sudden calf pain
*acute pain is short-lived

What will be on the PE?
A
- Swelling
- Weakness
- +Thompson test, +fusiform swelling
- Palpable deformity

What labs to order?
A
- MRI
*to determine partial or full thickness

What is the non surgical treatment
A
- Casted in plantar flexion
*will gradually increase to neutral for over 12 weeks
*better for partial tears - PT

What is the surgical treatment?
A
- Open surgery
*casting in plantar flexion
*progress through heel lifts and bracing for 8-12 weeks - PT
