What is the clinical presentation of a femoral neck fracture

A
  1. Complaint of hip pain, with a h/o a fall
  2. Is the fracture is displaced they are usually unable to get up due to pain and instability

What are the PE findings

A
  1. Hip pain with any movement of the hip
  2. Affected side may be shortened
  3. Leg rests in external rotation
  4. Typically no significant swelling because fx is within the capsule

Where does the blood supply to the femoral head come from

A

Retinacular vessels
*the vessels will be damaged by the fax
*femoral head undergoes AVN
*will collapse with WB

A
  1. Hemiarthroplasty
  2. Early mobilization

After surgery what is the patient allowed to do

A

WBAT or Non WB for 6-12 weeks
*can attempt conservative non-operative treatment if fracture is stable/impacted
