What is the most common location of a ruptured biceps?
A
Proximal (towards upper arm)

When is a proximal bicep tendon tear more common?
A
- In older adults with impingement
*due to chronic inflammation
*the strength of the biceps will overcome the tendon

When does a proximal bicep tendon tear occur?
A
- During lifting

What are the symptoms of a proximal biceps tendon tear?
A
- Sudden pain in upper arm
- Snap/pop
- Muscle bulge

During the PE what will you find?
A
- Muscle bulge in lower biceps (Popeye muscle)
*will be accentuated with flexion/resistance - Palpable defect in bicipital groove
- Bruising

What are the diagnostic tests?
A
- X-ray (eval for treatment)
- MRI will diagnosis the tear and eval for RCT

What is the treatment?
A
- Conservative with NSAIDS/PT

Is surgery recommend?
A
- Risk outweigh the benefits
*only done if concomitant RCT
