What are the causes of elbow arthritis?
A
- RA (MC)
- Gout
- Trauma
- OA (not as common)
- Septic bursitis

What are some of the symptoms from the different causes?
A
- RA: pain, swelling, instability as it advances
- Non-RA inflammatory: pain, swelling, effusion, loss of motion, warmth
- Post-traumatic: pain and/or stiffness
- Septic: acute and severe pain, stiffness, warmth, swelling, effusion, fever, chills, malaise

What will be found on the PE?
A
- RA: swelling, RA nodules, tenderness, decreased ROM, varus/valgus instability
- OA/trauma: motion loss from osteophytes, tenderness at joint line, crepitus
- Non-RA inflammatory/sepsis: very painful ROM, decreased ROM, effusion, warmth

What are the tests to conduct?
A
- AP/lateral radiographs
*osteopenia (RA)
*joint narrowing (OA)
*erosions
*malunion/nonunion
*osteophytes - MRI

What are the treatment options? (RA)
A
- Lifestyle modifications
- RA management
- CI
- PT
- Braces
- Surgery (synovectomy, radial head excision, or total elbow arthroplasty)

What are the treatment options (Non-RA inflammatory)
A
- Treat the underlying cause
- Aspiration and CI

What are the treatment options (OA/trauma)
A
- Analgesics and PT
- Arthroscopy (osteophytes debridement, chondroplasty, loose body removal)
- Joint replacement
