What is pes cavus?
A
- Higher arch in the foot
*more painful then pes planus due to stress on the midfoot

What is the cause of pes cavus?
A
- Likely due to a neuromuscular disease causing changes in muscle tone

What are the symptoms?
A
- Shortened length of foot
- Difficulty finding shoes
- Foot pain
- Rear foot varus is common

What are the tests to order?
A
- X rays of foot
- X rays of spine
- MRI of spine

What is the treatment
A
- Corrective shoes
- Surgery to flatten the foot

What is rear foot varus
A
Walking on the outside of the foot
*increases the risk of 5th metatarsal fracture
