- pH normal
what labs can be done for vulvovaginal candidiasis?
- 10% KOH on wet mount –> see hyphae and spores
what is uncomplicated VVC?
- sporadic or infrequent VVC
- mild-to-moderate VVC
- likely to be c. albicans
- nonimmunocompromised
what is complicated VVC?
- recurrent (RVVC)
- severe candidiasis
- non-albicans candidiasis
- uncontrolled diabetes, debilitation, or immunosuppression
what is the treatment for uncomplicated VVC?
- fluconazole 150 mg oral tablet, 1 tablet in single dose
*may weaken latex condoms if use topicals
*might give 1 refill (if symptoms do not resolve)
what is the treatment for pregnant patients with VCC?
7 day topical agents
*fluconazole is CI
what is the treatment for complicated VVC?
- 7-14 days of local therapy OR fluconazole 150 mg x 1 for 2-3 times (RVVC)
- 7-14 days of topical therapy OR fluconazole 150 mg x 1 for 2-3 times (Severe VVC)
what are other treatments for VVC?
- gentian violet
- boric acid
Do asymptomatic women and sexual parters need treatment for candidiasis?
No
