How will a patient present with an ankle sprain
A
- Swelling
- Point tenderness over ligaments
- Difficulty with WB

If you’re suspecting a patient has an ankle sprain what tests can you conduct
A
- Squeeze test
*tibia and fibula at mid calf
*pain will indicate syndesmosis injury - External rotation test
*ankle is Dorsiflexion, externally rotate it
* pain will indicate syndesmosis injury - Subtalar joint injury
*tender at sinus tarsi
**1,2 need surgery

What are some labs to order?
A
- Can be diagnosed with H&P
- Radiographs
*swelling, inability to bear weight, tenderness over bone - MRI
*asses the severity of the sprain

What is the treatment?
A
- NSAIDS, ice, elevation, ROM
- Bracing
- WBAT
