What is cervical radiculopathy?
A
- Referred neurogenic pain
*distribution of affected cervical nerve roots
*down to fingers

What causes cervical radiculopathy
A
- Pressure on the nerve roots by herniated disks (younger)
- Degenerative changes (older patients)

What are some symptoms
A
- Neck pain
- Radicular pain
- Muscle spasms
- Weakness
- Changes in writing

What symptoms are more common with cervical spinal stenosis
A
- Trunk dysfunction
- Leg dysfunction
- Gait disturbance
- Bowl bladder changes

What will be on the PE?
A
- Decreased cervical lordosis
- Decreased ROM
- Assess motor and sensory function C5 to T1
- DTRs of bilateral upper extremities (do them)

What is the spurling maneuver
A
Bending the head in different ways to put more pressure on the nerves
+ there will be numbness and tingling down the arm

What tests should you order>
A
- X rays
- MRI or CT with contrast
- EMG/NCV
- ESR, CRP, CBC

What is the treatment?
A
NSAIDS
Cervical traction
NOO chiropractic manipulations
