-set of teachings of beliefs usually based on a holy book e.g the bible
what does practice mean
-series of rituals or ceremonies to express religious beliefs e.g covering head , fasting and lighting candles
what does institutions mean
-the organisation of worship or believers e.g through services at religious buildings
what does consequences mean
-set of moral or ethical values that guide the believer in their behaviour e.g 10 commandments
what are monotheistic religions
-only believe in one God
-supernatural power is source of beliefs around which religion revolves and is seen as sacred by its followers e.g islam
polytheistic religions?
-believe in many Gods who all have a higher power
-these Gods seen to possess supernatural power and all seen as sacred by its followers e.g hinduism
new age movements
-based on spiritual rather than religious belief system
-focus on ones individual self rather than other higher , supernatural power
-emphasise self development and self fufilment e.g crystals , spirtual healing

-symbol given a holy or sacred significance and the group worship the symbol
e.g aboriginal arunta tribe worshipping the totem pole
