movement aiming to bring about equality for women theory which sees women exploited and oppressed by men

suffragette movement campaigned for women to have right to vote

-feminist movement in the 1960s and 1970d campaigned to bring about rights like equal pay for women
third wave feminism
current feminist movement which sees society as more equal but seee women as facing different challenges e.g class, ethnicity

-new form of campaigning using online tech e.g twitter, complaints and hashtags e.g me too

radical feminists key ideas
-men dominate thru violence, fear, intimidation through turning women into sex objects for men gratification
-patriarchal struggles in private and public
-FIRESTONE= claims that women biology leads them to be exploited as pregnancy and childbirth make women vulnerable and dependent on men
radical feminism and the family
-family is dangerous place for women due to the high DV rates
-men exercise power thru violence and rape
-women murdered twice a week by partner or former partner

criticisms of radical fems
- not everyone experiences patriarchy the same to the same degree
-doesn’t acknowledge progress in terms of gender equality
-doesn’t offer any real solutions to end patriarchy
-2/3 of women initiate divorce first ( free to escape oppression ) - too extreme
