what is green crime?
-actions that break laws protecting the environment
-may be illegal/not illegal in some countries/law changes overtime
what does a transgressive approach say
-any human action that causes environmental harm to people, animals plants whether its legal or not
exmaples of green crime
-pollution
-deforestation
-littering(illegal waste disposal)
-unregualted fishing
-illegal traficking endangered animals and plants
-contimnation of the land,water, supply
what is primary green crime
-crimes which result from the deliberate destruction and degradation of the earths resources
what do marxists say about green crime
-bussinesses want profit and fincial gain
-they exploit the workers
-but the factory workers also want a living

-ecosystems affected e.g animals dying
-population cannot fish(food supply cut, contimanted water (get ill and rashes)
-factories dispose toxic waste whcih no ones watching
-In the Uk the law would be more enfocred e.g fines

what is secondary green crime
-crimes which result in not following the rules or laws aimed at preventing environmental disasters
what is the first case study?
-deep water horizon
-marine oil spill caused by an explosion
-ignored warning signs of weaknesses in cement preventing gas escaping
-Bp was to blame they contunied drilling bc they wanted profits
what was the second case study?
-VW cars
-cheated emissoning test
-reduced emissons by 10-30 times when tests occured
-pleaded guilty were aware cars wouldnt pass the test
-sought to cheat the tests delibarate
problems defining green crime
-illegal in some places not all
-fish/plants cant report the crime
-impacts large scale (may become accpeted)
-law chnages overtime

-different laws- problmeatic when comapring crime stats
-different defintions- vary within country/researcher
-difficult to measure- done by govs who can have power to control their activities
-use of case studies - one off exmaples cant be generalised
who are the vicitims of green crime
-developing countries close to illegal dumpsites
-affects a community= large scale
-w/c or ethnic minority
-WOLF argues theirs env racism(those who suffer are non white causing it are white)
