16
Q

What is the most common cause of interstitial pneumonia in infants?

A

RSV - Respiratory Syncytial Virus

17
Q

What patients does influenza virus typically cause pneumonia in?

A

Elderly, immunocompromised or those with pre-existing lung disease

18
Q

What patients is Aspiration Pneumonia seen in?

A
  • Alcoholics

- Comatose patients

19
Q

What are the common causes of aspiration pneumonia?

A
  • Bacteroides
  • Fusobacterium
  • Peptococcus
20
Q

What is the classic presentation of aspiration pneumonia?

A

RLL abscess - right main stem bronchus is straighter and wider

21
Q

What is tuberculosis caused by?

A

Mycobacterium tuberculosis

22
Q

What are the signs of primary TB?

A
  • Focal caseating necrosis in the lower lobe

- Foci will undergo fibrosis and calcification to form Ghon complex

23
Q

Ghon Complex

A

Typically a sub-pleural area of fibrosis and calcification that can be reactivated into secondary TB

24
Q

What are the signs of secondary TB?

A

Reactivation of Ghon complex due to AIDS/aging

- Occurs ar the apex with the formation of cavitary foci of caseous necrosis and can lead to bronchopneumonia

25
Q

What are the presentations of secondary TB?

A
  • Fevers and night sweats
  • Cough with heomptysys
  • Weight loss
26
Q

What are the main tissues that TB can spread to?

A
  • Meninges - at the base of the brain
  • Kidneys
  • Cervical Lymph Nodes
  • Kidney
  • Lumbar Vertebrae
27
Q

What is TB spread to the lumbar vertebrae called?

A

Pott Disease
