Osteoma
Benign tumor of bone most commonly on facial bones
Gardner Syndrome
FAP with osseous and soft tissue tumors
Osteoid Osteoma
Benign tumor of osteoblasts surrounded by rim of reactive bone
What is the typical location and patient of osteoid osteoma?
Often in young adults less than 25 yrs and arises in cortex of long bones on the diaphysis
What is the presentation osteoid osteoma?
Bone pain that resolves with aspirin
Osteoblastoma
Often arises in the vertebrae and is larger than osteoid osteoma
What is a key difference between osteoblastoma and osteoid osteoma?
Osteoblastoma does NOT respond to aspirin
Osteochondroma
Tumor of bone with an overlying cartilage cap
What is the most common benign bone tumor?
Osteochondroma
Osteosarcoma
Malignant proliferation of osteoblasts often in metaphysics of long bones
What is the typical age with osteosarcomas?
Teenagers
What are risk factors for osteosarcoma?
- Rb mutation
- Paget Disease of Bone
- Radiation
Giant Cell Tumor
Arises in epiphysis of long bones with a “soap-bubble” appearance on x-ray - it is local aggressive
Ewing Sarcoma
Malignant proliferation of poorly differentiated cells derived from neuroectoderm
Where is Ewing sarcoma typically located?
Arises in the diaphysis of long bones
