6.7 Hodgkin Lymphoma Flashcards
Hodgkin Lymphoma
Rare amounts of Reed-Sternberg cells that cause neoplastic proliferation of large B cells with CD15+ and CD30+
What does a Reed-Sternberg cell look like?
“Owl eyes”
What is the action of the Reed-Sternberg cells?
Secrete cytokines that attract lymphocytes, plasma cells, macrophages and eosinophils
What makes up the bulk of a Hodgkin lymphoma tumor?
Inflammatory cells
What is the most common type of Hodgkin lymphoma?
Nodular Sclerosis
Hodgkin lymphoma - Nodular Sclerosis typical presentation and patient
Young female with an enlarging cervical neck LN
What is the histology of nodular sclerosis?
Lymph node divided by bands of fibrosis with lake-like spaces of lacunar cells - Reed Sternberg cells sit in the lakes and are called lacunar cells
Which of the Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes has the best prognosis?
Lymphocyte rich
Which of the Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes has the worst prognosis?
Lymphocyte depleted - in the elderly and HIV patients
What is associated with mixed cellularity Hodgkin lymphoma?
Eosinophils and IL-5
