What directed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to establish rules for operations at hazardous materials incidents?
- The Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) of 1986 established Federal regulations for handling hazardous materials. SARA directed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to establish rules for operations at hazardous materials incidents.
The responsibility for the establishment and expansion of the ICS modular organization rests with who?
The responsibility for the establishment and expansion of the ICS modular organization rests with the Incident Commander.
When is an IAP mandatorily required?
For smaller/less complex incidents, the IAP may be
oral or written, except for hazardous materials
incidents, which require a written IAP. FEMA has
developed a series of ICS Forms for use in developing a written IAP.
The optimal span of control in the ICS structure (__:__).
The optimal span of control is one
supervisor to five subordinates (1:5).
Depending upon the incident size and complexity, various types of support facilities may be established by Incident Command. These designated facilities typically include:
1.
2.
3.

__________________ is typically established when no single jurisdiction, agency or organization has the authority and/or resources to manage the incident on its own.
Unified Command is typically established when no single jurisdiction, agency or organization has the authority and/or resources to manage the incident on its own.
While chain of command relates to the overall
hierarchy of the organization, __________________ deals with the fact that all individuals have a single
designated supervisor they report to.
While chain of command relates to the overall

designated supervisor they report to.

additional resources.
What is the purpose of establishing a Join Information Center (JIC)
1.
2.
Joint Information Center (JIC) May be established to coordinate all incident-related public information activities
* Serves as the central point of contact for all news

the JIC
Who meets directly with the Incident Commander and have the ability to expand their sections to meet the needs of the situation?
The person in charge of each section is designated as a Section Chief. Section Chiefs have the ability to expand their sections to meet the needs of the situation. As shown here, they report directly to the Incident Commander.
What is the first section to be established by the Incident Command in an expanding situation?
The General Staff overall responsibilities are summarized in the graphic. In an expanding incident, the Incident Command first establishes the Operations Section. The remaining Sections are established as needed to support the operation.
Who’s responsibility is it to disseminate operational information and create/prepare the IAP?
The Planning Section Chief oversees the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of operational information related to the incident. It is the Planning Section’s responsibility to prepare and disseminate the Incident Action Plan, as well as track the status of all incident resources.
