B. The ISIU is responsible for conducting investigations of the following criminal offenses:
1. Extortion;
2. Food tampering;
3. Human trafficking;
4. Murder for hire;
5. Nuisance phone calls;
6. Obscene/harassing phone calls (if suspect is unknown);
7. Police impersonator;
8. Threats targeting specific JSO employees, judicial officers (including judges and attorneys
employed by the State Attorney’s Office [SAO]), or their immediate family when the threat
is related to the employment of the JSO employee or judicial officer;
9. Stalking (if suspect is unknown); and
10. Stalking of local celebrities, government officials, or influential people regardless of whether
the suspect is known or unknown.

4. If the initial response does not necessitate a callout, complete the preliminary investigation
and route the appropriate report to the ISIU. The on-scene supervisor maintains the
discretion to call out an ISIU detective to assist with the investigation at any time if deemed
necessary.

What two options does a responding officer have when learning of a potential credible allegation?

3. When a responding officer learns of a potential credible allegation, the officer shall contact
ISIU directly or notify his supervisor immediately. If a supervisor receives an allegation, they
shall notify ISIU immediately. Both the responding officer and the responding officer’s
supervisor shall not notify or discuss details of the allegation with their direct chain of command. Once ISIU personnel has been made aware of an allegation, the Undersheriff or his designee shall be briefed as soon as possible.
