4. The following individuals, upon approval of the commanding officer (or higher authority),
are authorized to ride as observers:
a. Law enforcement officers from other agencies;
b. JSO and City of Jacksonville (COJ) employees (with their supervisor’s approval) who can
demonstrate that the experience gained from riding as an observer would benefit the
JSO;
If a member of the media wants to ride with an officer, who must provide approval prior to riding?

are authorized to ride as observers:

B. Officer Responsibilities
1. Individual officers initiating requests for observers shall submit a completed Observer
Program Request/Release Form (P-0596) to their sergeant for approval at least 24 hours
prior to the requested ride-along date. Upon approval, the sergeant shall forward the
Observer Program Request/Release Form (P-0596) to the commanding officer for final approval. Observers requesting to ride with less than 24 hour notice require the approval of
the commanding officer.

nationwide criminal history check will be conducted on all observers except JSO employees.
