Week 6 - PVS: Tissue Perfusion Flashcards
1
Q
What is tissue perfusion?
A
- blood that flows through arteries and capillaries to target tissues
2
Q
What is arterial blood pressure determined by? (3)
A
CO and Systemic vascular resistance (SVR)
1. Ventricular contraction creates pressure, pushing blood through arteries, capillaries and into interstitial spaces
2. Delivers oxygen, fluid, and nutrients to the cells
3
Q
How is BP maintained in arteries?
A
- constricting or dilating arteries and arterioles in response to stimuli
4
Q
What are characteristics of venous blood pressure? (3)
A
- blood is returned through veins and venules (less sturdy than arteries and arterioles)
- more stretchy - lower pressure than arteries
- veins contain valves to keep blood flowing forward to the heart
5
Q
What populations are at risk for impaired perfusion? (2)
A
- older adults
- social determinants of health
6
Q
What are individual risk factors for impaired perfusion? (3)
A
- genetics
- lifestyle
- immobility
7
Q
What are 2 types of PVD?
A
- Peripheral Arterial Disease
- Chronic Venous Insufficiency
