Q

What is arterial blood pressure determined by? (3)

A

CO and Systemic vascular resistance (SVR)
1. Ventricular contraction creates pressure, pushing blood through arteries, capillaries and into interstitial spaces
2. Delivers oxygen, fluid, and nutrients to the cells

Q

What are characteristics of venous blood pressure? (3)

A
  • blood is returned through veins and venules (less sturdy than arteries and arterioles)
  • more stretchy - lower pressure than arteries
  • veins contain valves to keep blood flowing forward to the heart
