What is CVI?
A
Prolonged venous hypertension that stretches veins and damages valves

What does back up of blood lead to?
A
- leads to edema and decreased perfusion

What may cause back up of blood? (4)
A
- standing/sitting for prolonged periods
- obesity
- Hypercoagulable states/vein trauma/thrombus formation
- Incompetent valves (varicose veins)

What does CVI ultimately lead to? (3)
A
- venous stasis ulcers
- Swelling
- cellulitis (redness, swelling, pain)

What are the clinical manifestations of CVI/PVD? (3, 7)
A
- Edema
- Stasis dermatitis: reddish-brown discoloration extending up to calf
- Stasis ulcers
- from edema/minor injury
- often above medial malleolus
- irregular borders
- difficult to heal
