Week 10 - Respiratory Assessment Flashcards
1
Q
Anterior thoracic landmarks
A
2
Q
Posterior thoracic landmarks
A
3
Q
Anterior, Lateral, and posterior reference lines Simple
A
4
Q
Anterior, Lateral and posterior reference lines in depth with ribs
A
5
Q
Where is the visceral pleura?
A
- lines the outside of the lungs
basically third spacing if fluids get in
6
Q
Where is the parietal pleura?
A
- Lines the inside of the chest
7
Q
What is the parietal pleura for? (2)
A
- potential space filled with a few millimeters of fluid
- vacuum or negative pressure which holds lungs against the walls
8
Q
What is the trachea/bronchi lined with? (3)
A
- dead space
- lined with goblet cells (mucus and cilia)
- defense mechanism
9
Q
Lungs diagram
A
10
Q
What is the function of the respiratory system? (3)
A
- Supplying oxygen to the body for energy production
- Removing CO2 as a waste product of energy reactions
- Maintaining homeostasis (acid-base balance)
note that CO2 is what the body detects to start increase breathing
11
Q
How is respiration controlled? (3)
A
- Humoral regulation
- Hypercapnia; increase in CO2 stimulus to breathe
-Hypoxia: decreased O2 can increase resp but is less effectIVE
12
Q
What are examples of subjective data for the respiratory system? (7)
A
- cough - different characteristics
- SOB
- Chest pain with breathing
- Hx of respiratory illness
- smoking history
- environmental exposure
- self-care behaviours
