Q

What is the function of the respiratory system? (3)

A
  1. Supplying oxygen to the body for energy production
  2. Removing CO2 as a waste product of energy reactions
  3. Maintaining homeostasis (acid-base balance)

note that CO2 is what the body detects to start increase breathing

Q

How is respiration controlled? (3)

A
  1. Humoral regulation
    - Hypercapnia; increase in CO2 stimulus to breathe
-Hypoxia: decreased O2 can increase resp but is less effectIVE
