Week 3: Pharmacokinetics - Excretion Flashcards
1
Q
Where does excretion occur in the body? (2)
A
- kidney
- also lungs or biliary excretion
2
Q
Which drugs can cross the membrane?
A
nonionized, lip soluble drugs
3
Q
What are the 3 steps in excretion?
A
- Glomerular filtration
- Passive reabsorption
- active transport
4
Q
What occurs in glomerular filtration? (2)
A
- filtration moves drugs from blood to urine
- protein bound drugs are not filtered
5
Q
What occurs in passive reabsorption? (2)
A
- lipid soluble drugs move back into the blood
- polar and ionized drugs remain in the urine
6
Q
What occurs in active transport?
A
- tubular “pumps” for organic acids and bases move drugs from blood to urine
