Why do those with patent ductus arteriosus have wide pulse pressures?
A
The left ventricle pumps harder to get blood to the extremities because some of that blood leaks out to the pulmonary artery; thus, systolic pressure is increased. Diastolic pressure is not increased, however, because blood is always leaking into the pulmonary circulation.
