Rest of 3 Flashcards
What is the important regulatory role of the epithelium of the GI tract?
It makes sure that the body absorbs the things that it wants and doesn’t absorb the things that is doesn’t want
How are things absorbed in the GI tract taken into the body?
Through the capillaries and lymphatics
What are the two layers of muscle in the GI tract?
Circular layer and Longitudinal layer
What is the purpose of the Lantech Plexus in the GI tract?
They are important for controlling various aspects of motility and secretory functions
What do the Endocrine cells of the epithelium of the GI tract do?
Secrete hormones into the blood that regulate digestion and appetite
What do the Exdocrine cells of the epithelium of the GI tract do?
Secrete substances into the lumen that aid in digestion
What is the function of the large ducts in the epithelium of the GI tract?
The ducts are conduits from accessory organs to the lumen of the tract
What are Sphincters in the gut?
Rings of muscle that when constricted form a constriction point in the tube
What are the functions of sphincters?
- Regulates the flow through the tract
* Prevents backflow
What are the six sphincters in the GI tract and where are they?
- Upper Esophageal (Pharynx/Esophagus)
- Lower Esophageal (Esophagus/Stomach)
- Pyloric (Stomach/Duodenum)
- Ileocecal (Ileum/Cecum)
- Internal Anal (Rectum/Anus)
- External Anal (Rectum/Anus)
