Respiratory 27 Flashcards
What is the diffusion of oxygen from the alveoli driven by?
The pressure gradient of of higher PO2 in the alveoli and low PO2 in the blood vessels
What causes oxygen to move from RBCs to the peripheral tissues?
The pressure gradient of PO2 being high in the RBC and low in interstitial fluid to move into a cell and mitochondria in the cell
What does a shift to the right of the oxygen dissociation curve mean?
The O2 affinity of HB is reduced so there is moe unloading
What saturation of Hb causes a shift to the right in the oxygen dissociation curve?
A lower hemoglobin saturation
What causes shifts to the right?
When there is an increase in body temperature, or metabolism or carbon dioxide
What is DPG?
An end product of RBC metabolism that shift the oxygen dissociation curve to the right and occurs in chronic hypoxia
