Renal Physl 8 Flashcards
What does Renal Secretion involve?
The movement of substances from the renal interstitial space into the tubular lumen for excretion
What do the transporters in renal secretion contribute to?
Contribute to ionic balance and excretion of metabolic wastes and exogenous substances administered to the body
What enhances excretion of substances?
It being filtered and secreted into the tubule
Why does the process of secretion require energy?
Because it requires moving things against their concentration gradient
What do organic and ion transporters (OATs) do?
Transport a wide variety of wastes such as bile salts, chemicals, processed foods and sweeteners and metabolic products of medication
What maintains a low intracellular sodium concentration in epithelial cells?
The sodium potassium ATPase
What does the sodium dicarboxylate cotransporter do?
Along with the electrochemical gradient facilitates the concentration of dicarboxylate like alphaKG into the tubular epithelial cell because it is located on the basolateral membrane
What happens once an organic ion is sufficiently concentrated into a cell from secretion?
Facilitated diffusion by anion exchangers can transfer it to the lumen where it’s destined for excretion
