Endocrinology 9 Flashcards
What are the effects of Aldosterone?
Increase retention of sodium and water in the nephron
What is the consequence of the reabsorption of sodium and water in the body?
Increase in the volume of extracellular fluid and increase BP and sodium concentration. It also increases the loss of potassium from the body
What cause the secretion of Renin?
A decrease of ECF, BP and Na+
What does Renin do?
It acts on angiotensinogen and converts to Angiotensin I
What is Angiotensin I activated by?
ACE converts it to Angiotensin II
What effects does Angiotensin II have?
It increases BP and causes vasoconstriction. It can also increase the output of Aldosterone
How does an increase in potassium affect the adrenal cortex?
It can cause it to increase its output of aldosterone
What does the ACE II enzyme do to Angiotensin II?
It causes Angiotensin II to cause a fall in BP opposite of its OG effect
