What is Endocrinology concerned with?
The study of biosynthesis, storage, chemistry, and physiological function of hormones with the cells of the endocrine glands and tissues that secrete them
What is an Endocrine gland?
A gland that does not have a duct system
What is the difference between an endocrine gland and a exocrine gland?
Endocrine glands don’t have duct systems and exocrine glands do
Which gland has both endocrine and exocrine function?
Pancreas
What are Hormones?
Chemical messengers
Do all cells respond to hormones?
No, only the cells that have receptors for that hormone
What are the three regions in the brain that hormones can come from?
- Hypothalamus
- Anterior pituitary
- Posterior pituitary
What do the Gonadotropins include?
FSH and LH
What kind of hormones does the adrenal cortex produce?
Corticoids
