* Bile salts and phospholipids
What does Bicarbonate from the liver do?
Neutralizes acidic chyme
What do bile salts and phospholipids from the liver do?
Aid in fat digestion (emulsification and micelle formation)
What do all the vessels that drain the intestinal tract collect?
In the hepatic portal vein
Which vein supplies the liver?
The hepatic portal vein
What does the liver receive arterial blood supply from?
The Aorta
What drains the liver?
The vena cava
In addition to the Aorta, where does the liver also receive blood from?
The hepatic portal vein the drains the intestines
Where must substances absorbed in the intestine pass before entering the general circulation?

What do hepatic lobules contain?
They have a central vein in the middle and a portal triad which contains the bile duct, a branch of the hepatic portal vein and a branch of the hepatic artery
What are the parts to the portal triad?
- Bile duct
- Hepatic portal vein
- Hepatic artery
What flows to the central vein of the hepatic lobule?
- Arterial blood from the hepatic artery
* Blood from the portal vein
What cells produce bile?
Hepatocytes
What occurs in hepatic sinusoids?
Arterial blood and portal vein blood mix and move towards the central vein
