A
- it is a proton pump
- responsible for secreting H+
- this generates gastric acid

Contra-indications (2)

- disguise symptoms of gastric cancer
- increased risk of fracture in elderly and osteoporosis patients (if prolonged courses used)

- GI upset
- headache
- C.diff
- hypomagnesaemia

What can the severe hypomagesaemia lead to? (2)

- tetany
- ventricular arrhythmia

- reduces antiplatetlet effect of clopidogrel by decreasing it’s activation by cytochrome P450 enzyme
