A
- sodium and potassium preparations should be used with caution in renal failure, fluid overload or hyperkaelemic patients
- surcose solutions and diabetics

A
- reduces serum concentrations of many drugs
- doses should hence be taken at different times
- increases the excretion of aspirin and lithium
