Q
Drug class
A
Insulin
2
Q
How does it work in diabetes? (4)
A
- stimulates glucose uptake from the circulation into the tissues
- increases the use of glucose as an energy source
- it stimulates glycogen, lipid and protein synthesis
- it inhibits gluconeogenesis and ketogenesis
3
Q
How does insulin work in hyperkaelemia? (3)
A
- draws K+ ions into the cells
- this reduces serum K+ concentrations
- once K+ is stopped K+ begins to leave the cells again
