LOSARTAN Flashcards
1
Q
Drug class
A
Angitotensin receptor blocker (ARB)
2
Q
How does it work?
A
- they block the action of angiotensin II on the AT1 receptor
3
Q
What is the role of angiotensin II?
A
- vasoconstrictor
- stimulates aldosterone secretion
4
Q
What happens when you block angiontension II?
A
- reduce peripheral vascular resistance (after load)
- this lowers blood pressure
5
Q
How do ARBs work in CKD?
A
- dilates the efferent glomerular arteriole
- this reduces intraglomerular pressure
- this slows the progression of CKD
6
Q
How do ARBs work in heart failure?
A
- reduces venous return (preload)
7
