How does it work? (3)
A
- increases the response to insulin
- by suppressing hepatic glucose production, increasing glucose reuptake and use as an energy source
- this is all by a complex intracellular mechanism

- type 2 diabetes

Contra-indications (3)
A
- kidneys
- severe renal impairment
- moderate renal impairment –> dose reduction
- AKI
- liver
- acute alcohol intoxication
- chronic alcohol overuse
- hepatic impairment - tissues
- hypoxia

- GI upset
- lactic acidosis
DON’T CAUSE HYPOGLYCAEMIA
