How does it work? (2)
A
- xanthine oxidase metabolises xanthine –> uric acid
2. by blocking xanthine oxidase you reduce the build up of uric acid

- gout
- renal stones
- hyperuricaemia
- tumour lysis syndrome
- associated with chemotherapy

- kidney impairment
- hepatic impirment
- acute attacks of gout
- skin rashes
- recurrent - hypersensitivity

- skin
- rash
- Steven Johnson syndrome
- Toxic epidermal necrolysis
- hypersensitivity
- trigger of acute attack
- starting the drug

Interactions (3)
A
- mercaptopurine and azathioprine
- increases toxicity of them
- inhibits metabolism
- amoxicillin
- skin rashes - ACE inhibitors or Thiazides
- increased risk of hypersensitivity
