  1. blocks alpha-1-adrenoreceptor
  2. these are found in smooth muscle e.g. blood vessels, urinary tract - bladder and neck of prostate
  3. blocking alpha-1-reductase induces relaxation
  4. this causes vasodilation and reduces resistance to bladder outflow
