- inhibit neuronal reuptake of serotonin and nordrenaline from the synaptic cleft
- this increases their availability for neurotransmission
- consequently improving mood in depression
- and improving neuropathic pain

Interactions and why?
A
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors
- both increase serotonin and NA levels at synapse
- precipitates hypertension and hyperthermia or serotonin syndrome
