- replaces aldosterone in adrenal insufficiency
- Addison’s - increases sodium levels
- increased blood vol

How does it work? (3)
A
- binds to mineralocorticoid receptor (aldosterone receptor)
- this causes an increase in ion and water transport
- this raises extracellular fluid and bp

- allergic
- systemic fungal infection
- live virus vaccination e.g. smallpox
- pregnancy
- underactive thyroid
- kidney and liver problems
- recent TB
- eye infection
- measles
- chicken pox
- herpes

- GI
- upset
- vomitting
- indigestion
- increased appetite
- head
- dizzy
- lightheadedness
- headache
- mood
- nervousness - sleep difficulty
